MINOR FIELD TRIP TRAVEL REPORT

Seminar Overview

In this minor field trip, overall activity was full of fun and learning! Minor field trip is not far away from Major fieldtrip since this activity also was for me, it was like a major since we have the same excitement and feeling when conducting the seminar.

Even if the seminar is moved after the Major field trip because of some problems, yet it is still a beautiful experience that gave us more knowledge about what is happening here in Davao City. PSSCC or Public Safety and Security Command Center stands out of all ICT companies here in Davao City, the best security measures and protocols.

The seminar aims to help students gain knowledge about the security operations here in Davao City and to orient students the basic protocols in traffic management and issues and also the information sharing in criminal detection.

As a student I am proud that I took this minor field trip and it helped me a lot in terms of being alert in your surroundings and being more vigilant. Even if there is a PSSCC there, I am the one who is first in-charge of my security. And not relying all the efforts to the government offices, we are the ones who could control and change ourselves. It is our duty to be part of this city and to be one of the active citizens of the Philippines.

Today we went on a seminar to PSSCC or Public Safety and Security Command Center of the 911 at Ecoland, Davao City. The day is great, sunny weather, we waited outside the gate and waited for instructions, while waiting we signed our attendances for security purposes. I was just curious what is inside because it was my first time there. I don’t even know where is the PSSCC located so I rode a tricycle just to get there.

What I learned?

I learned a lot from there, from security cameras to traffic management, traffic control, information dissemination and operation and deployment. The process of which the cameras are being used by means of watching every corner and sections of the main roads here in Davao City is very complicated, but they can control it whatever they want. I learned that you should not violate any laws here in Davao, because you do not know you are already caught in the high definition cameras! It is hard to follow rules but that is the law, if you don’t follow, then it is your obligation to the law. I learned that why criminals here don’t last is because of PSSCC, they have the Information Operations Center which collects and indentify every piece of information they gather and watching every corner of the cameras. It is scary if you commit some criminal offense but for protection, it is the best security I have encountered. Davao is far from criminals and that is the good news about having the PSSCC of the 911.

What I liked?

I liked their stuffs, their technology and their gadgets used. Yes, they have the best equipments in terms of security here in Davao City and I ensure that.

What is the difference between MMDA in Manila and PSSCC here in Davao City?

The difference is equipment and security, in MMDA, they have their high tech cameras but not as much as high tech here in PSSCC. MMDA have slow data delivery and ping, slow internet connection as far as we have observed while PSSCC here is very real time and the videos hardly will be delayed, meaning they have fast internet connection and data delivery status, which improves their performance in security operations. PSSCC have the wide area, and building which is very secured and powered with high tech devices, MMDA is like a normal office set-up, I didn’t saw some password protected doors there. PSSCC have Traffic Operations Center just link MMDA, but in MMDA, they have limited and not so big monitors, unlike PSSCC, they have the best HD monitors, you can clearly see what is happening in the roads, you can clearly see the faces of people. PSSCC have the Information Operation Center, the best information center I saw, high tech cameras and people who monitors and controls the cameras, I did not saw the Information Center in MMDA but I think they have. But compared to PSSCC here in Davao, they are far away from security operations. For me, PSSCC wins, from physical observations alone you could determine which is better in terms of operation, security, emergency status, rescue and information dissemination.

What can I recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP?

One thing I recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP is that to continue the Field Trip and Seminars program because it really helps the students advance in knowledge and to know better what the world out there awaits. FTS will be a key to understanding a better world of ICT to IT and CS students, what opportunities in the biggest company of the country is offering to them and what good is it to work there. It gives a glimpse of the future, so that students can understand and look forward to their decisions.

This is my advice to those who will take their advance seminar program in the near future.

My advice is that to really grab the opportunity because it rarely comes, and you might end up in regret if you did not make or choose the right decision, follow what is on your heart but use your knowledge and wisdom, use your mind in making tough decisions. And if you could join the seminar program, just enjoy the whole duration of it and learn the wonders of the world out there. It is full of learning, experience, excitement and truth.
